Learning object oriented programming by implementing it in C++?

When I program I normally use MATLAB-Which is quite easy to learn (scripts). But learning C++ is taking me forever. I needed to learn about classes and objects - but many tutorials just explain it in terms of abstraction (dogs, trees, houses, or whatever :) ) But I need to learn by example and by doing it. Preferably in C++. Is there any online tutorial I can use to learn this? How can I best learn C++ the practical/applying way?
